Sunday School and Youth

Sunday School

Beginning in Kindergarten and continuing to 6h grade, Hope invites children to learn the stories of the Bible and apply them to their lives. Kids are taught by a team of passionate and creative educators who are deeply committed to the Christian faith, and who love kids! These teachers employ a range of learning techniques - crafts, games, outdoor activities - to find ways of connecting with the students and to make learning fun. Hope uses several kinds of course material available through Fortress/Sparkhouse Digital (like “Frolic,” “Whirl,” and “Connect”). Sunday School meets each Sunday, except on special occasions, right after the morning worship service.

Confirmation

Beginning in 6th or 7th grade, students undergo a 2-year program of instruction, which culminates in affirmation of baptism (when students confess their faith in the grace that they received in baptism as infants or young children). Confirmation helps youth develop a fuller understanding of the meaning behind the Bible stories they learned in Sunday School, cultivate a richer appreciation of the Lutheran heritage, and inspire a life of service in the name of Christ.

In confirmation, students revisit both the Old and New Testaments, study Martin Luther’s Small Catechism, and perform various kinds of service ministry. Each confirmand also meets semi-regularly with a mentor from the congregation. Hope uses the “Here We Stand” curriculum produced by Fortress Press (Sparkhouse) - an engaging course of study that integrates textbook learning with games, fellowship activities, and multimedia presentations.
